About A Team Transmissions

Built for Drivers Who Want Real Answers

A Team Transmissions is a family-owned, second-generation transmission specialty shop built for people who want clarity before making a major repair decision.

We focus on transmission diagnosis, honest recommendations, and long-term solutions instead of pressure or guesswork. With two Columbus-area locations, our team is positioned to help drivers across the metro area get answers in plain language and move forward with confidence.

Why We Focus on Transmissions

Transmission problems are rarely as simple as one obvious symptom and one easy answer. That is why our approach starts with diagnosis before repair or replacement.

We believe drivers deserve to understand what is actually going on with the vehicle, what the options are, and what makes the most sense for the long term. Keeping that focus on transmissions helps us stay practical, thorough, and clear when the repair decision feels big.

A Shop Built on a Better Standard

A Team Transmissions was built to be a different kind of transmission shop. Sean Avner grew up in the transmission business alongside his father, who owned an AAMCO franchise in Decatur, Georgia.

Working in that environment gave Sean a close look at how often customers were left with pressure, unclear explanations, and not enough trust in the process.

He later worked as a general technician at a small shop, which gave him an even broader view of how drivers wanted to be treated when they came in stressed and unsure.

Sean founded A Team Transmissions in March 2008 with a different goal in mind: build a transmission shop where people get honest recommendations, clear explanations, and a better overall experience.

Stacie Avner joined him as a business partner, and together they have grown A Team into a two-location Columbus-area business built around relationships, quality, and integrity.

Sean Avner is a second-generation transmission specialist who started in the business with his father in Decatur, Georgia before working as a general technician and eventually opening A Team Transmissions in March 2008.

His role in the shop is centered on transmission diagnosis, repair guidance, and making sure customers get a clear explanation before they are asked to make a big decision.

“Between our trained technicians, financing options, and a nationwide warranty, we believe drivers can come to us with confidence. Quality and integrity matter more to us than volume or upselling.

We want every customer to get a clear explanation before anything is approved because transmission repair is a big decision and people deserve to understand what they are paying for.

Our job is to help you understand what’s going on, walk you through the options, and treat you like a relationship that matters.”

The Team Behind the Work

Sean has built the team around the same standards that shaped the shop from the beginning: careful diagnosis, straightforward communication, and respect for the customer’s time and money.

The goal is not just to fix a problem, but to make sure the customer understands the repair and feels taken care of throughout the process.

Our Mission - Clear Answers Before Big Decisions

Our mission is built around a simple standard: explain before recommending, diagnose before replacing, and make sure the customer understands the repair before anything is approved.

A Team exists to give Columbus-area drivers a transmission specialist they can trust, not because of slogans, but because the shop works to make every conversation, estimate, and recommendation clear and practical.

What Our Customers Say

Drivers researching A Team Transmissions can also review customer feedback directly on Google.

“I went in after an ATF fluid change seemed to affect acceleration, but A Team determined that my transmission is fine and I only need a new catalytic converter! They recommended a local (very inexpensive and reputable) muffler shop and sent me on my way, free of charge. Bruce was very friendly and very helpful. You guys rock!”

“The best service and workmanship for automatic transmissions in Central Ohio. I noticed many local repair shops referring their customers to them along with National Preowned Automobile facilities. In my opinion the people in the know utilize this great facility.”

Stanley Ray

“Excellent experience with this shop. Seemed very professional and competent. Free transmission diagnostic is awesome, and I really appreciate their honesty, even when it meant they wouldn't be getting any money from me. Got a call back telling me that my transmission was fine, and suggesting what to look into instead to get the problem resolved.”
